Some words
For those of you that are using Remote Desktop Connections on a daily basis, you might have run into the problem that the desktop-size is broken or you could hardly find documentation about the .rdp Entries.
I’ve written a tool you can use to edit .rdp files without using the Microsoft Remote Destop Connection Wizard or a Texteditor. The GUI is simple for having a good overview of the properties. This is the screenshot of the main page:
Prequisites
There is no special Windows Platform that is needed. For using RDPEdit, only the .NET Framework 2.0 or higher is required. You can download the framework for you plaform here:
Documentation
For using the program, no intense documentation is needed. You can edit the parameters directly, there is just one thing to point at: Many options are binary, this means you can switch these either on or off. On the screenshot you might have seen that there are some checkboxes that look like this:
This means, that this option was not specified in the .rdp file. The terminalservices client uses the default setting then (this might depend on the client version). If you change this, the option will be written to the .rdp file as you wanted to. Please note: after having set this to a specified value (wether checked or not), you cannot set this back to “use default”.
For understanding .rdp parameters you can have a look here (german).
There are two buttons for fixing the Desktop Geometry: fixDesktopsize and fixWindowPos: You can use this to fix the Geometry when having on the Remote Desktop Connection. Heres what they do:
- fixDesktopsize: adjusts the desktopheight and width to the window definitions.
- fixWindowPos: adjusts the windowsize to the desktop definitions.
